ON THE HUSKER MENU: TURKEY ON THURSDAY...
THE COLORADO BUFFALOES ON FRIDAY.
Huskers in Boulder to face pesky Colorado, hope to stampede over Buffs into the Big 12 title game.
When you’re in the hunt for a national championship, seems like every week you say “It all comes down to this” when you talk about an upcoming game. And it proves to be true again this Friday. While most of America will be kicking back in their easy chairs trying to digest everything eaten the day before, two teams will be battling it out in Boulder for the Big 12 North Championship and a trip to play a likely rematch with the Oklahoma Sooners in the Big 12 Championship December 1st in Dallas. Yes, it’s Colorado and Nebraska. Better buckle up.
Colorado is not being taken lightly, as everyone knows how close the games have been over the past five years. I’m still getting over last year’s game. I had truly thought we were going to lose and was stunned at the outcome. I jumped around in my living room until the neighbors contemplated calling the police. Somebody was watching over us that afternoon in Lincoln. So will that somebody be watching over us this year?
Let’s hope so. It is a huge game and the teams are not exactly friendly to one another. There is respect between the two teams as seen in the Denver Post article on Eric Crouch below, but there is also a bitter fan rivalry that really gets stirred up by the likes of the Irv and Joe Show, a radio show on a station in Denver’s “The Fan” radio station. The two are ruthless in their jokes and observations on the Cornhusker State. So, just having them shut up and eat a little crow with their leftover turkey would be most satisfying.
So a lot of marbles are on the line this Friday. It’s one of those make or break a season kind of games. Sure, we’ve had an incredible season, but a loss would diminish the feeling we’ve been feeling for awhile now. “Hey, we can do it. We can beat Miami. We can be national champs again.” I think it can happen.
The game kicks off at 2:30 p.m. Friday, and will be broadcast nationwide on ABC. But hey, if you happen to be in any of these cities check out the Husker game-watch party near you!
Let’s go Huskers, stampede the Buffs!
